Fashion week started off with a bang honoring the Michael Kors at FITs Annual Couture Council Luncheon yesterday at David H. Koch Theater in Lincoln Center.
The designer received the Award for Artistry of Fashion as his industry peers looked on. The afternoon began with champange on the veranda, where stylish gate keepers of fashion poured in, posed for the press, and mingled. Later the man of the hour arrived in a well tailored sit, his signature sunglasses, being escorted by the beautiful Hilary Swank and Vogue Editor’s Anna Wintour.
“He is such a mensch,” concurred Simon Doonan. “And he’s always been the most passionate, committed designer and philanthropist. I just adore him,”
For years Michael Kors has been a staple in the fashion industry starting his career off traveling the country with a small group of models doing numerous trunk shows and private viewings. He pushed his career to the successfully worldwide brand it is today. Fashion big hitters Andrew Bolton, Iman, and Couture Council chair Yaz Hernández, shared memories of their relationships with Kors during the luncheon giving him the greatest of praise. It was a perfect introduction of NYFW honoring a design great for his years of dedication to the world of fashion.
“The minute you think you made it, you’re done, “And I am not done!” -Michael Kors
