Founder of IAMMYHAIR Campaign Janae Raquel, has evaluated the idea of brunch by seamlessly blending the natural hair community into the beloved sunday tradition. Kicking off her #TeaandTangles brunch series this past Sunday, Carlos Daughter ambassador Janae filled Suite 53 with culturally simulating taste makers creating a statement in the natural hair community. While sipping on tall stem glasses of mimosas, enjoying soul soothing teas, and nibbling on sweets the suite was set buzz as people mingled with their fellow curly girl and fro brother.
Music stimulated our senses mixed with sounds of warm laughter and exchanges of personal hair journeys meanwhile attendees captured their lustful hair moments with Joe Chea for his photographic series Naturally M.I.N.E setting the celebratory tone of the brunch. We received gifts of love and appreciation from hostess Janae, blessing us with Carlos Daughter Hair Milk (Nourishing & Conditioning) Cleansing Conditioner, All Natural Nude Hydrating & Nourishing Deep Conditioner, and her namesake Volummizing Comb adorned with the encouraging words “Accept Embrace and wear your hair”.
Once well mingled and bonded, we were invited to participate in a panel discussion covering wide spanning topics throughout the natural hair movement and share our personal experiences. The panelist featured great influencers and idealist of the natural hair community spanning from designers, style and beauty bloggers and the life partners of women who participate in the natural hair culture. The discussions touched on controversial topics such as what society thinks of the natural hair moment and how men react to “THE BIG CHOP”, also communicating the need for acceptance of different opinions on natural hair within the community.

I was also asked to say a few words about how my natural hair journey has influenced my sense of style, and though I was nervous as (insert bad word here)… It was such an amazing moment to share my candid experience with a room full of beautiful beings.

The Tea and Tangles Brunch Series has captured the need for open dialogue amongst the natural hair community that goes beyond wash n goes, curl patterns, and product hauls. It has open the floor to topics that many of us face when starting out, currently living , or even leaving the world of natural hair. It was a great forum to meet like mined individuals, hear thoughts from a male perspective, and just have a moment to celebrate the the victories of embracing ones natural state of hair and being. It was a pleasure to meet innovators, followers of TallGlassofstyle, and have a chance to have my voice heard.
Special thanks to Janae for throwing such a memorable event, all the panelist that shared their thoughts and stories, and all of my fellow vibrant attendees who brought nothing but positive energy and willingness to the table resulting in a culturally blessed event. Till next time… xoxo Tallglassofstyle
