For a little over a year I have been working with Long Tall Sally to bring my tall sisters amazing clothing that fit our bodies perfectly and really shows the world that we not only stand out in height but also style. Last month I helped host their pop up, got to meet so many of my amazing tall sisters, and shoot with the brilliant photographer Olushola and its been such a wonderful experience. Every year I am introduced to more challenges that help shape me in to a more confident woman. There was a time when I couldn’t take a photo with out going into a panic attack, I would never wear anything with a heel, and wearing a dress was completely out of the question but every year I grow older I come into my own.
I’ve hidden myself so many times worried about things that make me different, trying to figure out what I needed to change to be “one of the cool kids”. Now i’m mastering the art of “focusing on me” instead of comparing myself to others in business, life milestones, or in physical form. Turn your attention on to yourself growth and less on what others are doing in their journey. Be inspired by others but remember at times the line of comparison and celebrating can be blurred. Before you know it you are beating yourself up for “not doing more” instead of reflecting on your accomplishments and feeling motivated. You are worth taking time to come in to your own, building towards the goals you’ve set for yourself.
As you are writing down your 2016 resolutions make sure to set goals that are focused on the benefit of growth instead of pushing to meet other expectations of how your life should be. Think of how the things you jot down will aide in promoting a better mental and emotional state in your everyday life and implement them with strong intention for self development. My dreams and goals will come to fruition because I have set them to the beat of my own drum. I am determined to live in the moment and let my journey take me on the speed that works in the benefit of me and not what the world tells me it should be and I encourage you to step out on faith.
